Challenge
When the architects and designers for the Kohl Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison set out to create a dedicated space for alumni, the vision was clear: an elevated, design-forward environment that celebrates connection and school pride. The result is a refined, high-end space anchored by a stunning bar wrapped in quartz with elegant waterfall edges. Thoughtful lighting enhances the ambiance, while a dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace wall—complete with a large-screen TV for game day viewing—serves as a striking focal point. Custom floating quartz shelves add a tailored touch, complementing the sleek aesthetic. At the heart of it all, the UW logo, etched prominently into the face of the bar, stands as a proud symbol of Badger legacy.
Solution
Leveraging advanced laser technology and the flexibility to reposition within the space without compromising precision, we meticulously captured every detail necessary for the fabrication of the bar and fireplace wall. Accurate mapping of all structural elements—including every bracket supporting the bar and custom floating shelves—was essential to ensure seamless integration and structural integrity. Our 3D modeling software provided comprehensive visualization and insight, allowing the fabrication team to understand how each component fit together with exacting accuracy.
Results
The installation of the feature bar and fireplace wall was executed flawlessly, exceeding expectations across the board. This striking space now sets an unmistakable tone for alumni and guests—showcasing that at UW–Madison, the Badgers are here to compete and to win. Every element, from the continuous veining of the quartz flowing seamlessly from the waterfall edges to the bar top, to the refined black quartz floating shelves, reflects thoughtful craftsmanship. At the center of it all, the etched UW logo on the bar’s façade serves as a bold statement of the University’s commitment to excellence—both on and off the field.
